Producer and Industry Organizations

Illinois Livestock Development Group

One of the top priorities identified at the 2003 Illinois Agricultural Legislative Roundtable is to attract and enhance a profitable livestock industry for Illinois.  To accomplish this, six organizations have formed the Illinois Livestock Development Group (ILDG) and pooled their resources to develop a long-term producer-driven strategy to restore profitability to the state's livestock industry:

Illinois Livestock Development Group

National Milk Producers Federation: The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) is a farm commodity organization representing most of the dairy marketing cooperatives serving this nation. NMPF members market a majority of the milk produced in the U.S., making the NMPF an effective voice on national issues for dairy cooperatives and their dairy farmer members.

Council on Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR): The mission of C-FAR is to secure additional resources to adequately fund relevant and high-quality research and related outreach programs that lead to profitable, consumer-sensitive, and environmentally sound food and agricultural systems in Illinois and the nation.

Professional Dairy Heifer Growers Association: To provide educational programs and professional development opportunities for the mutual benefit of growers, dairy producers, allied industry, dairy animals, and the environment. Provide a communication network for dairy heifer growers, dairy producers, and allied industry. Establish business and ethical standards for the dairy heifer growing industry. Enhance the profitability of member heifer growers and the dairy industry they serve.

National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA): The National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) is a new name in animal agriculture, but carries a strong legacy of providing the U.S. livestock industry with a forum to collectively address issues of common interest.

The new organization, successor to the Livestock Conservation Institute (LCI), is the result of a progressive process and vision that began in 1996 when the LCI Board of Directors commissioned a long range planning team to landscape an organization that would best serve animal agriculture in the 21st Century.

NIAA began operations in January 2000 and is collectively addressing issues of interest to the industry, providing vital industry information, continuing education and communication outlets for animal agriculture professionals.
